Planning A Bachelorette Party Weekend
When planning a bachelorette party for my sister in law, it was on my heart and mind to make this weekend uniquely set apart from all other bachelorette weekends. We still had the typical Weekend timeline of: arrival, getting ready, dinner, walking the town, dancing, gift opening, swimming, brunch, and more. However, we started our weekend off with a devotional and set our hearts and minds on things above and ensured our actions reflected this as we went about the weekend as well. I introduced this Devotional.
Why Give A Bachelorette Party Devotional
Rewind a couple months prior to the bachelorette weekend, I had a very hard time finding a devotional that could be read at the bachelorette party. There truly was not one that existed online, and so I chose to write one myself! The title of the devotional was given to me at the same time I was choosing a name for the blog, so I found it fitting to use “Set Apart” for both occasions.
The Result of Giving A Bachelorette Party Devotional
I am so glad I gave a devotional at the bachelorette party because on multiple Occasions since the Party, I have heard the bride use this term “Set Apart” as a positive reminder when encountering life challenges early on in marriage. I also knew multiple of the women in the bridal party were followers of christ, some new in their faith, some far along, and one member of the party was not a follower at all. So I found it even more important to set the stage for the weekend as to how we should conduct ourselves, but also what this weekend is truly about and how we can glorify god with Jesus in our hearts on a weekend that the world has far too often turned upside down. So it is my hope that you find this bachelorette party devotional useful to you as you plan a celebration of your sweet bride to be:
A Bachelorette Party Devotional: A Marriage Set Apart
Introduction
Tonight we will kick off the celebration of [insert Bride’s name] last days as a single woman & [insert Bride’s name] last night out with her girls before the wedding weekend extravaganza! We will shower her with gifts and love on her as she prepares to become one with [Insert groom’s name]. We will also spend a moment in prayer over their unity & the days leading up to their marriage before we go into the rest of the weekend!
Reflection of Engagement & Preparation for Marriage
But first, I would like to spend time concluding these last few weeks of their “dating” relationship, and how it has set them up well to be a God-honoring marriage, lived set apart.
You may have heard or have defined love in many different ways, or maybe have known or thought love to be a feeling. But God. God. Who created you & me, who is love, who ordained the first marriage, and designed marriage between a man & a woman, also defines & created the word LOVE.
Love is, [by definition]… Patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud or rude. It does not demand its own way, or is easily angered. It keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices in the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes & perseveres.
1 Corinthians 13
Love by God’s definition is SET APART.
[Insert Bride & Groom’s Name] have chosen to love one another by God’s definition of love & therefore, their marriage will be a reflection of a marriage that will look set apart.
I chose you before I formed you in the womb; I set you apart before you were born. I appointed you a prophet to the nations.
Jeremiah 1:5
You may have already seen aspects of their relationship lived differently than other relationships you have witnessed at your age, or have experienced yourself. To many, this defining love may seem undesirable or it might seem desirable yet unachievable, and it is not an easy way to live. But it is oh so rewarding.
From the beginning of creation, God made them male & female. For this reason a man will leave his father & mother and the two will become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one flesh.
Mark 10:6-8
As they become one, they will illustrate God’s delight in a joyful, God fearing marriage, marked by unfiltered desire, when put to God’s Holy word. In the coming years, God will continue to refine and mold their marriage to be a beautiful example of His love for His church.
Surely there is a mine for silver and a place where gold is refined.
Job 28:1
Conclusion
I hope you have seen God work in their lives as individuals and as a couple, and will see this reflected in them for years to come, I know I have already, and I am so eager to see how God will glorify himself through your set apart lives & your set apart marriage in the years to come!
Prayer
Let’s bow our heads in prayer.
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for each one of these beautiful women you have made and have placed in this room together on this day and at this exact time. May we celebrate [Insert Bride’s Name] & give thanks to you for the gift that is is to receive a God-fearing marriage at a young age. We come to you with fun anticipation of a wedding weekend that draws near, and a celebration tonight for our dear Sister in Christ, [Insert Bride’s Name]. We pray for this beautiful sister in front of us that she eagerly awaits these days of marriage ahead with a thankful heart and overflowing gratitude that she has found a husband to enjoy life lived set apart. May she enjoy all aspects of marriage as you have designed it to be lived – areas of service, sanctification, growth, leadership, love, and intimacy. May every area of their marriage glorify you as they become more like you & live how you desire them to live every day. If there is any fear for the days ahead, for [Insert Bride’s Name] role as a wife, or [Insert Groom’s Name] as a husband, may perfect love drive out fear. And for the unmarried ladies in front of me, may they patently await their future marriage & know the many Truths God has when it comes to marriage & intimacy with their future spouse & with You, their Lord & Savior. Bless each of them with a God-fearing husband & open their hearts to receive you fully now so they too can be the God-fearing wife their future spouses desires. And lastly, may we celebrate tonight in a God-honoring way as we dance, speak, dress & enjoy this evening, with our hearts and minds set on you. Protect us tonight under your wing and keep our words on our lips & sovereignty on our mind & glory in all our actions. We love you Lord and we thank you for this beautiful bride who lives her life so beautifully set apart for you.
We pray all in your loving name, Amen.
